National Playground Safety Institute (CPSI Courses)

CPSI stands for "Certified Playground Safety Inspector". It is the certification offered by the National Recreation and Park Association, through the National Playground Safety Institute. CPSI's are certified to inspect Playgrounds for safety issues; making sure that each playground they inspect is up to current national standards, developed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

CPSI's are required to stick to a strict Code of Professional Conduct. CPSI's must always be contracted bye the owner/operator of a playground to inspect it. He or she should never take it upon themselves to inspect a playground without explicit written permission.

The Certification Process

Becoming a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI) enables one to inspect and perform audits on playgrounds, nationwide. The criteria for which are set forth by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) & Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

In order to become a CPSI an individual must complete the following:

•Attend the two day CPSI course, given throughout the year at locations nationwide.

•Sit for and pass the CPSI examination (given the day after the course).
